Team Development

Team-Development-EventsTeam development is in some ways the most simple of tasks in that the rules are straight forward.

The more difficult aspect is the activity that is used to nurture the skills needed to make it happen.

Quest Events have a wide range of excellent activities to achieve a variety of teambuilding objectives.

The most important aspect of a successful team is to have a vision, understand and agree the goal to achieve this vision.

Commitment from each member of the team to make it happen and agree roles for each team member.

Trust takes time to build but needs to be kicked off with a mechanism such as an activity that relates to trust.
Trust can be broken down easily and quickly so needs to be monitored.

When choosing an event to allow your team development it is important to pick an event that challenges and holds the interest of the group.

Sample case:

A group of 50 staff are being brought together for a six month project in an IT company.
The project starts in two weeks and everyone will be under pressure to perform quickly and efficiently from the start.

The event will need to :

Gel the team members and build relationships quickly so trust is being increased from day one.
Focus the team leaders on working and communicating without barriers.
Create a good atmosphere from day one to give the project the best start.
Focus the entire group on the deadline aspect of the project.
In addition certain aspects such as creativity and resourcefulness need to be encouraged with any project of this type as existing structures are not as strong in a newly formed group.

The event:

The Quest Events team development event ideally suited to this group is Operation Christopher Columbus.
The group are given a short team development session in a classroom, outlining the skills they need to draw on for success.
After the classroom session the group is divided into 10 teams of five members.

They are given most of the equipment to make a raft but wood needs to be cut and additional pieces ordered.
The team must forward plan, book time with the wood cutting service, pre order screws, tape etc. to build their raft.
After the planning stage the teams must build and then in the third stage transport the entire team across a lake.

This activity allows the team :

  • Develop their planning skills
  • Resourcefulness
  • Leadership skills
  • Focus on the overall goal
  • Time management
  • Builds relationships
